So I’m re-reading Jack Kerouac’s 1957 classic On the Road for, gee, the zillionth time. (“Zillion” includes all the times I’ve just opened the book randomly and read passages for inspiration. It’s one’a my bedside books.)

If you don’t know the great Kerouac, WTF?

He was one of the 1950s era Beats.

On the Road is his American Odyssey, I guess you might call it.

Kerouac wrote about freedom.

Hell, Kerouac WROTE freedom.

When he wrote, he got it All Out There, if you get my meaning.

Today, I just wanna share with you his “Belief & Technique for Modern Prose: List of Essentials,” which comes from a letter he wrote in 1958.

It’s not writing advice per se. It’s kind’ve a state of Kerouac’s mind in 1958.

It’s not all gonna make sense to you right away. But it probably will sometime later, so you might print this out and post it somewhere near your desk.
